Legal references
An act named in an issue or a wiki page becomes a reference: marked in the text, listed under it, and read from its official publisher.
Switching them on
Legal references are a project’s own decision and are off by default. The project’s owner or one of its administrators opens the board menu, chooses Legal acts… and presses Switch on.
What the project wrote before is read once, in the background; the screen shows the progress. Switching off deletes nothing: the references stay and are shown again when it is switched back on.
What is found by itself
On every save of an issue’s description, a comment, a wiki page or a remark on one — whichever way it was written: the screen, the API, MCP, an agent.
- An address on a listed official site, as it is or as a link. The article written right beside it — «…, Article 30» — is kept as the place.
- A citation with a number of its own: a CELEX number, «Regulation (EU) 2016/679», «SI 2017/692», «section 170 of the Data Protection Act 2018», «§ 10 GwG».
Only what is unambiguous: an abbreviation that is one act in Germany and another in Switzerland is read only in the form that says which. Text inside a code block is not read.
A citation whose publisher is not on the list is not a reference. Nothing is linked to a site the product does not read.
By hand
Under an issue and under a page is the block Legal acts: every act the text rests on, with the place. Add a legal act takes an address, or finds an act already read; Place corrects the article; Remove takes a reference away.
A reference you removed is not put back by the next save. One you put by hand stays through edits while the words it was put on still stand.
The act’s card
- The title, the publisher, the day the text is as of, and the day the publisher’s site last confirmed it.
- Original opens the publisher’s page; Download the copy gives the file as it was read, where the publisher allows a copy to be handed on.
- Who refers to it: your issues and pages, grouped by place. What you may not read is counted and not named.
- The text, opened at the place cited, with a search and the list of articles where the act has headings the product can read.
An act is read after the save that cited it, not during it. Until then, or when the publisher’s site would not answer, the card says so and still shows the address and who refers to it.
The text is not re-checked on a schedule today: the two days on the card say how fresh it is. Read the original before you rely on a wording.
The project’s list of acts
Legal acts… in the board menu lists every act the project’s issues and pages cite: how many issues rest on each, how many of those are open, how many pages, and when it was last cited. It is searched by title or address and ordered by any of those numbers.
In a search and through MCP
The field legalRef finds issues by the act they cite, in the description or in a comment. In a wiki search the same field finds pages.
legalRef = "32015L0849"— by the act’s number, its address or the number of its card.legalRef ~ "2015/849"— by words in its address or title.legalRef IS NOT EMPTY— everything that cites any act;IS EMPTYfor what cites none.
The answer is the list the act’s card shows under Who refers to it, for the same reader: accepted references only, in projects that have them switched on. Over the API an issue carries them as fields.legalReferences — on one issue always, in a search when the field is asked for.
| Tools | What they do |
|---|---|
list_legal_references | The acts one issue or one page refers to, with the place. |
get_legal_document | The act’s card and a window of its text, with a search inside it. |
find_by_legal_document | The issues and pages that refer to an act — what the token may read. |
add_legal_reference, remove_legal_reference | What Add a legal act and Remove do under an issue or a page. A read-only token is refused. |
The assistant and the agents read through the first three, so «what of ours rests on this directive» is answered with the list.
There is no ordering by legalRef, and the search screen does not complete the field: it is typed.
The add-on
Everything above comes with every plan and with the trial. Two things are an add-on bought per project on the team plans, in Settings → Billing, and included during the trial:
- Citations written in words — «the anti-money-laundering directive» with no number. A model reads them and writes an offer under the text, which a person accepts or refuses.
- The list of acts as a spreadsheet — Download .xlsx on the list.
When a paid period ends, the model stops reading and the file is not given; every reference, every act and every card stays readable.
